 Your calendar may not acknowledge the fact, but Tuesday is "What If Tuesday" in the District 23-5A and District 24-5A volleyball races. Will championships and playoff positions be determined for the first round of the UIL's 128-team state playoffs or will district playoffs, coin flips or other determining factors be required later in the week.

 A look at the "what ifs" in District 23-5A. If Georgetown and Pflugerville Hendrickson both win on the final night of the district race, they will tie for the title at 13-1 and face a 6 p.m. Friday showdown on the Lady Hawks' court for the eight-team alignment's top seeding in bi-district action early next week.

 Georgetown, now 30-15 for the season, will close out at Bastrop, a team the Lady Eagles bested 3-0 in a 25-14 triplicate on Friday, Sept. 29, at Eagle Gym. Hendrickson, now 30-6, appears set for 13-1 as it entertains an Elgin team that stands winless in 23-5A and has only won two sets in district competition.

 A minor decision will determine 23-5A's fourth playoff seeding as Bastrop and Cedar Creek both stand 6-7. The Creek appears to own the easiest assignment as it visits Pflugerville (3-10).

 Looking at 24-5A, first-place Austin McCallum (14-1) can claim the crown with a win over third-place Ann Richards (13-2) on the road. However, a victory by Ann Richards would result in a three-way tie for first that also would include Austin LASA, which already has finished its district campaign at 14-2. On Tuesday, LASA will conclude its regular season with a non-district match with Austin St. Stephens. Austin Crockett (9-6), which plays Austin Northeast Early College, has clinched fourth place.

 In bi-district, first from 23-5A will play fourth from 24-5A, second in 23-5A will play third in 24-5A; third in 23-4A will play second in 24-5A and fourth in 23-5A will play the 24-5A champion.

 Georgetown will ride the momentum of a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-22) homecourt victory over arch-rival East View (9-4, 16-23) into its Tuesday battle at Bastrop, which dropped a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-17) verdict to Cedar Creek on Friday. The Lady Bears stand 18-23 for the season.

 "It was a very good win. That was fun," GHS coach Jenny Richardson said of the victory over East View. "I like that we played well and finished strong to win sets. East View played well and got a strong match from (junior) Maissa Pozo."

 Addy Gaido, a 6-foot-5 outside hitter, led the GHS attack, including match point with a floor-punishing hit, with 14 kills in 36 hits as the Lady Eagles put down 37 points on 112 hits with 10 errors. Fellow juniors Sadie Mccauley, Sofia Jazesf and Molly O'Shaughnessy followed with eight, six and five kills, respectively.

 Other Georgetown statistical leaders were Mccauley with two aces, 6-2 junior Mckenzie Bernard with four total blocks, junior Raegan Ramirez with 28 digs and junior Issabella Casanova with 21 assists.

 East View statistics were not reported.

 In the opening set, GHS scored seven of the final 10 points with a kill by Gaido providing the set point. A kill by Gaido also put the Lady Eagles ahead to stay in the set at 6-5.

 GHS led the second set by seven at 18-11. but the Patriots charged back to close the gap to a single point at 24-23, but again Gaido added the set point with a kill.

 The decisive third set mirrored the second with East View slicing a 21-16 GHS edge to one point at 23-22, but a block by Bernard and Gaido's hard spike over the net decided the match.

 GHS swept all three sub-varsity matches. The JV won 25-13, 25-11 to improve to 13-0 in district with Taylor Vett putting down match point with a kill, the Flex squad moved its record 23-5A record to 12-1 with a 26-24, 25-12 triumph and the Freshman A completed an 8-0 district run with a 25-21, 25-12 win.

 Tuesday's sub-varsity schedule at Bastrop will have the JV and Flex matches at 5:30 p.m. No Freshman contest is scheduled.
