Elgin Recap - Hendrickson Preview

 Georgetown and 17th-ranked Pflugerville Hendrickson, two of the three early leaders in the District 23-5A volleyball race, will collide at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Eagle Gym,

 The third member of the front-running fraternity, East View, will stay free of the fray as it entertains Pflugerville at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Hower, the Patriots face road battles with Hendrickson and Georgetown in back-to-back matches on this Friday and next Tuesday.

  Henrickson will put a 24-10 season record on the line Tuesday and has won six of its last eight starts, including 23-5A victories over Bastrop Cedar Creek, 3-1; Bastrop, 3-0; and Pflugerville, 3-0, in its most-recent outing. For the season, the Hawks are hitting a .249 average (1006 kills in 2,687 hits with 338 errors). They boast a kill efficiency of 37.4. Senior middle blocker/outside hitter Kyra Dove has put down 265 kills -- an average 3.5 per set.

  Coach Jenny Richardson's Lady Eagles will counter Hendrickson with a 17-16 record that includes 3-0 district wins over Pflugerville Connally, Pflugerville and Elgin. For those individuals interested in numbers, GHS has outscored its 23-5A opponents 225-106, while the Hawks have a 245-165 edge, playing one extra set. For the season, the Lady Eagles have hit .183 (847 kills in 2817 attacks with 331 errors) and a 30.2 kill efficiency. Georgetown's leading hitters have been 6-foot-5 sophomore Addi Gaido (281 kills) and 5-9 senior Kate Stengle (205 kills and 37 aces). Stengle aso has 351 assists, and 5-10 senior Victoria Guyton leads with 50 total blocks and senior Alexis Flora tops the digs chart with 208.

 Georgetown and Hendrickson played earlier this season when they collided in a 50-minute scrimmage on Aug. 6 at Eagle Gym with the Hawks appearing to have made s slightly stronger showing.

 "Georgetown and Hendrickson both know what is about to happen," Richardson said after the Lady Eagles' 25-8, 25-12, 25-19 victory on Friday night at Elgin. "It will be a fight to the end."

  Flora, who returned to action against Elgin after missing time with an injury, said, "We're playing together with great energy and it's always to our advantage to be playing at home

  As for the Elgin match, Richardson had a mixed review. "The first two sets were great, but the third not so much. However, it was good to see the girls respond with their backs tup against the wall."

 The Lady Eagles scored 11 of the final 13 points to close out the first set and outscored the Wildcats (5-13 season, 1-2 in district) 9-6 in the closing minutes to ice the second set. In the third set, Elgin led 17-16 before GHS scored eight of the final 11 points, A kill by Gaido tied the score at 17 in the deciding set and an error gave GHS the lead for good. The match point came on a tip by Guyton.

  Georgetown hit .283 for the march with a 38.0 kill efficiency. Gaido led the offense with 10 kils in 21 attacks, while senior Claire Mitchell, also working her way back into form after an injury was a major offensive factor in closing out the match.

  The GHS JV improved to 3-0 in district with a 25-5, 25-14 win with kills by Molly O'Shaughnessy and Chloe Albright leading the charge. The Freshman White (A) and Freshman Blue (B) both won in straight sets. The White won, 25-3, 25-5. White coach Lacey Blissit was happy with the way her team is pulling together and showing steady improvement.

  On Faculty Night/Madelyn Shoales on Tuesday, The JV and Freshman White will play Hendrickson at 5:30 p.m. with the Freshman Blue/Varsity taking the court against the Hawks at 6:30 p.m.
